Old News
Virtual
Patient Reference Group - 01/07/2011
We want
your opinion!
We are looking to establish a virtual
Patient Reference Group (vPRG). The purpose of this group is
to ensure that
patients are involved in decisions about the range and quality
of services provided, and over time, commissioned by the
practice. We plan to ask for and act on the views of our
patients. This includes patients being involved in decisions
that lead to changes to the services the practice provides or
commissions, either directly or in its capacity as gatekeeper
to other services. We will also seek views from practice
patients through the use of a local practice survey. The
outcomes of the engagement and the views of patients will be
published on this website.
If you are willing to
participate in this group periodically via e-mail we would be
grateful if you complete the form here.
The group will be used to encourage dialogue electronically with
our patients and you will be asked, from time to time, to complete
an online questionnaire. This would be no more than twice a year.
We plan for the vPRG to be
representative of all age groups, ethnic backgrounds and social
groups.
This group will run in parallel
to the Friends of Bersted Green Surgery who will continue to lead
with fundraising activities for the surgery as well as being an
avenue for patient feedback.
Online
Appointments - 10/06/2011
We are
very pleased to announce that you can now book and cancel your
appointments online.
You will need to register
with the surgery to access the online service, and once
registered you will be given information that will enable you to
create your own username and password.
If
you are interested in these services please complete the form
here
and hand the completed form in at Reception. We will then contact
you again with details of how to register.

Harry
Hill has kindly agreed to perform the official opening ceremony at

The New Practice
Opens Today - 28/02/2011
After 12
years of planning, a year of building and countless hurdles
overcome, the new surgery is now open! We hope you like the
friendly, modern and professional feel. Please bear with us with
if any little glitches occur while we settle in.
The
demolition of the old surgery will take place over the next few
weeks, and the area turned into our new car park. Until then
please be aware that there is only limited on street parking.
Please leave a few minutes extra to park, or "go green" and walk,
cycle or catch the bus!
We will
have an official opening later in the year. More details will be
available in due course.
Nurse Practitioners
Clinic - 09/02/2011
Fiona
Stevens, our new nurse prescriber, will be running a new nurse
practitioners' clinic every day. She is able to diagnose, treat
and prescribe for many minor ailments and conditions.
SMS Appointment
Reminders - 01/10/2010
We will shortly be introducing a new appointment reminder service using
text messaging.
Please make
sure we have your current mobile number if you would like to
receive text message reminders. And don't forget to let us
know if you change your mobile number.
Please let us know
if you do not wish to receive text messages from us and we
can remove you from the messaging system. This does not
affect any other aspect of your care.
Go Ahead Given for
New Surgery - 07/01/2010
We are delighted to
announce that we have finalised a deal with our developers
PMP to provide us with a new state-of-the-art surgery. The
new surgery will be built around the existing practice in
Durlston Drive allowing us to continue providing services
from our current buildings until the new development is
completed at the end of 2010.
The new surgery
will be three times the size of the existing practice and
will provide the additional space required to offer a number
of new services. We hope you will be as pleased as we are
that we can finally move from our current cramped
accommodation to premises fit for modern general practice.
We are expecting
that work on the new build will start shortly and we hope
that patients will bear with us while building work is
underway. We would expect that we will move into our new
surgery 9 months after building starts and final completion
will be achieved after 12months on site.
Parking
Arrangements
We hope patients
will appreciate that our surgery car park will be out of
action throughout and they will have to allow extra time to
park cars and walk to the surgery. We are investigating
alternative arrangements and will keep patients informed via
notices in the surgery, on our web page and via the
newsletter.
Dr Difford moving to
Bristol - 23/11/2009
We are sad to announce that
Dr Carrie Difford has decided to move with her family back to
Bristol and, as a result, she will be leaving the Practice
before Easter.
In order to assist Dr
Difford in the interim the Partners have agreed that there
will be a change in the working days that the Doctors work and
updated leaflets are available at Reception.
The changes affect Dr
Dormer, Dr Geoghegan and Dr Difford only. Starting on 16th
November Dr Dormer will now work every Tuesday and Friday, Dr
Geoghegan every Monday and Tuesday Dr Difford working every
Wednesday and Thursday. Dr Weeks, Dr Bradstock-Smith, Dr
Schaeper and Dr Meek’s working days remain unchanged.
The other major
change is that Dr Schaeper will now be the lead Doctor for
diabetic care, working with Nurses Penn and Gillson.
Planning
Permission Granted - 14/09/2009
We are
very pleased to announce that planning permission has been
granted for our revised plans for a new surgery. We expect to
start work on a new two storey 'L'-shaped building this
Autumn. This will provide us with three times the floor-area
we have now and will enable us to offer lots of new services.
The plans are on show in the patient waiting room.
There will
of course be a period of considerable upheaval while the build
takes place around us. We hope you will bear with us, and we
will let you have more information as the timetable becomes
firmer.
Change in
Opening Times –
01/08/2009
In order
to accommodate a change in our in-house training programme, we
will be opening later at 9.00 am on Tuesdays, and earlier at
8.30 am on Wednesdays from the 1st of August.
Congratulations to
Dr Dillon -
23/05/2009

for the past 25 years.

contract. She has decided to leave and to work as a locum so
she can be more flexible around her children.
New
Premises for Bersted Green Surgery – 19/03/08
We have
now received planning permission from the Arun District
Council for the building of our new premises to go ahead and
plan to start construction work shortly. We hope that the new
premises will be open in Summer 2009.
We have,
for a number of years, been operating in premises which are
far too small for us and have been unable to offer the range
of services we would like to provide for our patients.
The new
premises will be built on our current site around our present
premises. The premises will give us almost three times the
floor area we have at present. They will be built over two
floors. Most of the consulting rooms, the treatment rooms and
a pharmacy will be on the ground floor. Plans of the new
premises are on display in our practice in the patient waiting
room.
Welcome
to Dr Beth Dillon – 01/03/08
We would
like to extend a warm welcome to Dr Beth Dillon who will be
joining the practice in early April. In January 2006.she
returned to West Sussex from Darlington where she had been
working as a GP partner. More recently she has been working at
the Avisford Medical Group in Felpham and at HMP Ford.
Beth has
an interest in Palliative Care and will be working at the
practice as a full-time GP.
Dr
Chris Furlepa Retires – 01/02/08
Dr Chris
Furlepa has announced he will be retiring as a partner at the
beginning of April 2008. He joined the practice as a partner
in 1981. Dr Difford will become the lead GP for diabetes,
assisted by Dr Dormer.
Chris will
take a well earned rest for a few months but we expect he will
return to do some locums later in the year. This will allow
him the time to pursue his long-term hobby of birdwatching! We
wish him well.
Changes to Doctors'
Consulting Days - 19/3/07
With Dr Shaw retiring on
April 5th and Dr Schaeper taking over from him the following

Wednesday and Friday.
Delivering great
quality - 1/4/05
We are very pleased
to have scored more that 1020 out of the 1050 points
available in the new NHS quality assessment. This shows we
are providing quality care to patients across the board. We
did particularly well in heart disease, mental health,
epilepsy and thyroid disease scoring 100% in all these
areas. We also scored over 99% in hypertension. Well done to
all the team!
Dr
Darling retires (again!) - 31/3/05
Since
retiring from full-time General Practice in 1997 after 34
years at Bersted Green Surgery, Dr Darling has been doing
regular locum sessions for the practice. He has now decided
to hang up his stethoscope for good and concentrate on his
busy retirement. We wish him well!
Building

Work starts
today on some major alterations to the surgery. A new consulting
room is being created from the old common- room at the end of the
main consulting room corridor. In addition, the practice manager's
office is being moved into the main reception area. Please bear
with us while these alterations take place. When they are finished
we will be able to offer more appointments with more doctors.

Dr
Bradstock-Smith has been awarded Vision User of the Year by the
National Vision User Group. "Vision" is the
computer programme we use to record all our clinical work on, and
allows us to provide better care for all our patients. Dr
Bradstock-Smith won his award for his work on providing GP's with
software to analyse their quality targets.
Bersted
Green Surgery Online
...is just being created. At the moment
it consists mainly of text covering the topics found in the
practice leaflet.
As
time goes by we hope to make it more engaging by including
graphics, more interactive through the PPG (Patients'
Participation Group) pages, and more useful by allowing repeat
prescription ordering.
We
will also let you know about the exciting new developments planned
for the surgery through these news pages.
Come
back and check us out from time to time!
