Emergencies

Dial 999 for an ambulance rather than call a doctor in the following cases:

When someone:

  • Has severe tight chest pain or a suspected heart attack
  • Is unconscious
  • Has a fit
  • Chokes and you can’t help

Go to the hospital Accident & Emergency department (Casualty) rather than call a doctor if any of the following has happened:

  • Head injuries (especially if the person is knocked out)
  • Overdoses, poisoning
  • Accidental injury, for example: deep cuts, bad burns or severe pain anywhere after an accident
  • Road traffic accidents
  • Any eye injury
  • Nose bleeds that do not settle with first aid

Other emergencies

  • Ring the surgery on 821392. The doctor will be able to give you advice or arrange to visit you if necessary.
  • Out of hours ring West Sussex Doctors On Call on 01903 690111. You may be given advice or asked to attend a surgery at Bognor Hospital or St Richard's Hospital. A visit may be arranged if necessary. In some cases you may be advised to call an ambulance or go to the Accident & Emergency Department at St Richard’s Hospital.
